Noise Ninja Photoshop plug-in on Intel Macs

(Photoshop CS3/CS4/CS5, Elements 6/7/8 only)

PHOTOSHOP/MAC COMPATIBILITY: This download works with Intel-native versions of Photoshop CS3/CS4/CS5, and Elements 6/7/8 on Intel Mac computers. Note that all earlier versions of Photoshop are PowerPC native applications and require the PowerPC version of Noise Ninja, located here. (PowerPC versions of Photoshop can run non-natively on Intel Macs using Apple's Rosetta PowerPC emulator, but they still require the PowerPC version of Noise Ninja.) Note that support for automation and 16-bit filtering might be limited in Elements.

LICENSING: Unlocking the plug-in version of Noise Ninja requires a Home Bundle or Pro Bundle license. If you already have a Home Standalone or Pro Standalone license, you can upgrade to the corresponding Bundle edition for $10. See the purchase page for details. You may use the software without a license but it will run in trial mode where images are marked with a grid pattern after filtering.

KNOWN ISSUE: On Mac OS X 10.4.6, the third-party utility CopyPaste-X 2.7.3 causes Noise Ninja to crash. Disabling CopyPaste-X solves the problem.

LAST UPDATED: July 27, 2010. View the change log here.

LATEST VERSIONS: Version 2.3.5 (for OS X 10.5 and 10.6).   Version 2.3.2 (for OS X 10.4)

Download and installation instructions

1. For OS X version 10.5 (Leopard) and 10.6 (Snow Leopard): click here to download the plug-in (8 megabytes).
For OS X version 10.4 (Tiger): click here to download the plug-in (8 megabytes).

2. Unzip (decompress) the downloaded file if your web browser didn't automatically unzip it already. Right-click or option-click on the file and choose "Open With -> Archive Utility". If you use Stuffit Expander to unzip the file, you must have version 8.0.2 or later or the file will not unzip correctly.

3. Drag the entire decompressed folder to the Plug-Ins directory in Photoshop. (NOTE: If you have any previous installations of Noise Ninja, remove them from the Photoshop plug-ins folder before proceeding.) Photoshop is usually located in the Applications directory. Here is a screenshot:

4. Restart Photoshop and open an image. Go to the Filter menu. There should be a submenu labelled "PictureCode", with an item "Noise Ninja". Select it to launch the plug-in.

5. When the plug-in is running, you can access help, preferences, and license information through the menu bar at the top of the plug-in window. A PDF version of the help is available in the "doc" folder.

6. If you have purchased a license, go to the plug-in's Noise Ninja menu and select "Install or view license" to unlock the software. You MUST enter BOTH the User name AND Key exactly as sent to you for a valid license. Here is a screenshot of the license installation dialog:
